Spectrum crèche praised in Ofsted report

Guildford based crèche recognised for its quality

The crèche at Guildford Spectrum, operated on behalf of Guildford Borough Council by Freedom Leisure, has won praise from Ofsted for the quality of its care following a recent inspection.

Specky’s Crèche was inspected on the standard of its Early Years Provision including how well it met the needs of the range of children who attend, the effectiveness of its leadership and management and its contribution to the wellbeing of the children. Also included in the inspection was Xtreme Activate, Spectrum's school holiday day camp.

First established in 2008, the crèche looks after around 100 children each week while parents and carers take part in a wide variety of exercise and leisure activities at the centre.

Ofsted reported that: “The manager and her team demonstrate a good understanding of the safeguarding and welfare requirements” and also noted “Partnership with parents is good.”

“We are very pleased and proud of our result,” says Jackie Shellard, Crèche Supervisor. “We have all worked very hard to achieve a high standard and continually look for ways in which we can ensure both Specky’s Crèche and Xtreme Activate offer children and parents a friendly, professional and safe child care service.”

Steve May, Freedom Leisure Area Manager said: “Ofsted was very impressed by the fact that all the children, whether regular visitors or occasional visitors, were playing well and interacting with staff nicely which demonstrates that staff are offering a superb, relaxed environment for youngsters -  which is the most important thing!

“Ultimately we provide a crèche to allow parents and guardians to use our facilities and remain active, because we understand that childcare can be one of the biggest obstacles when it comes to exercising, and to score so highly will allow us to continue to do so with confidence.”
