Spectrum continues gym upgrade with turnstile entry and extra fitness staff

Guildford Spectrum – operated by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Guildford Borough Council – is continuing its gym upgrade by installing turnstile entry and employing more gym-floor instructors from the end of July.

The turnstiles will ensure quicker access and greater security. Members will simply swipe their Active Card to gain access to the gym while Pay As You Go customers will be given a pin code to access the gym when they pay for their session at the main reception.

This more efficient system will enable quicker access to the gym and will eliminate any waiting time during busy periods which, inevitably, can occur with manual signing in.  Furthermore, it will prohibit anyone from casually coming in to the gym and thus make the gym access fair and secure for members and paying customers.  The turnstiles and software will be installed and tested from Friday July 22nd to Monday July 25th, ready for use from Tuesday July 26th onwards.

Another benefit of switching to the turnstile system is that 150 hours of reception staff time will be freed up each week: Spectrum is reallocating this staff resource to give an extra 150 hours of fitness instructor time to the gym.  Members will enjoy the chance to have more qualified fitness instructors on the gym floor to offer advice and guidance to support their work outs.

“We are looking forward to streamlining the access to the Spectrum gym and think the new turnstile entry will be both convenient and reassuring for our members,” says Steve May, Freedom Leisure area manager.  “We are really pleased to be able to give 150 hours of additional free fitness instructor time to our gym members who will benefit greatly from having access to their expertise to boost the effectiveness of their workouts and answer any questions they may have.”
